Excellent article. Also factor in the recession and its effect on job mobility and depleted nest eggs. When the economy is bad, leaving your current high-paying job for the instability of a startup doesn't sound like a very good idea. Also, most sucessful entrepreneurs aren't kids in a garage, they are VPs and execs in their 40s or 50s with industry experience, a rolodex, and some savings to fall back on. Now these people have to rebuild their nest eggs and can't responsibly put their retirement, health care, or kids college education at risk.
